House Passes Bill to Protect More Nursing Parents in Workplace

The House approved legislation extending workplace accommodations for nursing parents in a Friday vote of 276-149.

The PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act (H.R. 3110) would expand existing protections for workers taking breastfeeding breaks to teachers, agricultural workers, airline workers, and other employees. Those protections already exist for other employees under the under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

This measure cleared the House Education and Labor Committee in May. The White House is supportive of the legislation, sayingit ensures that “millions of nursing mothers have a clear right to pump at work.”
