Age-Bias, Nursing Mother Protections Advance in House Panel

A House panel approved two bills that would offer new protections to older workers and nursing mothers in the workplace.

One bill (H.R. 2062) would make it easier for workers to sue over age bias. Currently, workers must show that age-based discrimination was the only reason for their terminations and demotions. The House Education and Labor Committee voted 29-18 to approve the bill.

“Our labor market and economy cannot fully recover if we fail to include and protect our nation’s older workers,” said Bobby Scott (D-Va.), the committee chair.
