GOP Workforce Training Bill Advances Through House Committee

House Republicans sent a labor bill boosting workforce training programs out of committee over complaints from Democrats that it helps dismantle the Department of Education.

The House Education and the Workforce Committee passed HR 8210, titled “A Stronger Workforce for America Act” on Tuesday in a 19-14 party-line vote.

Chairman Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) introduced the legislation, which seeks to alter the 2014 Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, to move some adult learning programs run by the Department of Education over to the Department of Labor.
