GM Moves to Dismiss Union Lawsuit Over Plant Closures (1)

A lawsuit by the United Autoworkers union alleging General Motors breached its contract by stopping operations at three production centers should be thrown out and go to mandatory grievance arbitration, the company said in court documents filed late March 21.

“Because the UAW has not (and cannot) allege that it exhausted those mandatory procedures, this lawsuit is not properly before the Court,” GM said in its motion to dismiss.

The UAW brought the lawsuit Feb. 26, asking that GM be ordered to “rescind its decision to close” three facilities in Ohio, Michigan, and Maryland. The company announced in November ...
