Equal Rights Amendment Sees New Court Fight from Virginia

The fight over ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment landed in a third federal court, as officials from the latest states to approve the amendment sued to force its addition to the U.S. Constitution and nullify a 1979 deadline.

Days after Virginia lawmakers took their final vote to ratify the ERA, the state’s Attorney General Mark Herring (D) joined his counterparts from Illinois and Nevada in filing the lawsuit against U.S. Archivist David Ferriero, who oversees constitutional amendments.
