Amazon to Restore Time Off Deductions for Striking Workers

Amazon will restore unpaid time off for striking workers following a settlement with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the union said.

In a settlement mediated by the National Labor Relations Board, the e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc rescinded attendance penalties against workers who participated in a “lawful strike, walkout, or other work stoppage.”

The settlement comes after an NLRB judge ruled last year that Amazon’s unpaid leave policy didn’t allow employees to participate in protected activities. The policy gives workers a bank of leave for missed work hours that don’t meet the threshold for sick leave or paid time off. If ...
