Amazon.com Inc. must retool its unpaid leave procedures after a National Labor Relations Board Judge concluded that it didn’t explicitly allow exceptions for strikes and other protected labor activities.

Amazon’s unpaid time policy didn’t leave room for workers to participate in activities protected under federal labor law, NLRB Administrative Law Judge Arthur Amchan said in a decision Wednesday.
