Washington state warehouse operators—including Seattle-based Amazon.com Inc.—face limits on worker productivity quotas under a new law signed by Gov. Jay Inslee (D).

The measure (HB 1762) mirrors those enacted in New York last year and California in 2021. The laws were spurred by reports of Amazon’s frequent use of productivity metrics that critics say emphasize speed over safety and lead to high injury rates among warehouse workers.
