Nucor Gets First Nod to Resolve Suit Over May Data Breach

Nucor Corp.‘s settlement to resolve a lawsuit over a May 2025 data breach was preliminarily approved by a federal court in North Carolina.

The US-based steel producer has worked with outside cybersecurity experts to reinforce its information technology systems after the breach exposed birthdays, medical and financial information, and Social Security and driver’s license numbers, according to the motion for preliminary approval. It will reimburse class members—like lead plaintiff Michael Sweat who said he was a consumer—for ordinary and extraordinary losses.
