  • Federal immigration authorities arrested Harvard Law visiting professor Carlos Portugal Gouvea after the State Department revoked his J-1 visa, following an October incident in which he fired a pellet gun outside a synagogue. While DHS officials characterized the episode as an antisemitic attack, local authorities filed no bias charges, and synagogue leaders said police indicated Gouvea did not know he was next to a house of worship. • Rhode Island will pay Nixon Peabody more than $83,000 for partner Zachary Cunha’s work on a state assembly oversight hearing on a bridge closure. Cunha billed over 68 hours at $600 an hour—earning about $40,900—while his associates, billing $500 an hour, collectively earned over $47,000. (WPRI)
  • David E. Loder, former chair of the health law group at Duane Morris, died of complications from lymphoma and scleroderma at his home. He became partner in 1989 and helped the health law practice gain national recognition. Matthew A.
