Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.

  • Husch Blackwell’s Catherine Hanaway was tapped to be Missouri attorney general, becoming the first woman to hold the position. Hanaway was previously the firm’s first female chair and is currently a partner in Husch Blackwell’s St. Louis office. (Governor of Missouri)
  • BHP is challenging the leadership of a £36 billion lawsuit against it after Pogust Goodhead’s co-founder Tom Goodhead was ousted as CEO by Gramercy, the US hedge fund financing the claim. The dispute raises questions over whether Gramercy is effectively controlling the law firm, which would breach rules in England and Wales requiring cases to be run by lawyers, not funders. (Financial Times)
  • DLA Piper is increasing its in-office mandate to four days of weekly attendance for US corporate lawyers. Previously, US lawyers were expected to show up to the office three days per week, according to a work location policy that went into effect last September. However, the policy gave practice group leaders discretion to establish in-office expectations. (Law.com)
