- Hogan Lovells advised some of the new investors in the $1.7 billion purchase of the Baltimore Orioles, including Michael Arougheti, CEO of Ares Management, and Mitchell Goldstein and Michael Smith, co-heads of the Ares Management Credit Group. The Hogan team, one of several Big Law firms involved in the deal, included partners Michael Kuh, Matthew Schernecke, Adrienne Ellman, and several others. Michael Bloomberg, owner of Bloomberg Law parent company Bloomberg LP, is one of the proposed new owners of the “Os.” (Hogan Lovells)
- Freshfields says that starting May 1, all of its New York-based “fee earners,” including partners, associates and legal assistants will need to be in the office four days each week. The news comes on the heel of the firm’s move to its new NYC digs at 3 World Trade Center, complete with “one-size-fits-all” offices. (Above the Law)
- US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’s “nearly adopted daughter” and newly announced law clerk Crystal Clanton is rising after a 2017 controversy over allegations that she sent racist text messages. Thomas’s critics say Clanton’s selection is “blatant favoritism, if not nepotism.” (New York Times)
- New York lawyer Arthur Cohen has been disbarred after admitting he stole more than $1 million from his law firm. Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg had alleged that Cohen used his firm, the now-defunct Gordon & Silber, as a “personal gold mine.” (ABA Journal)

- Jon Mize has been appointed managing partner of Womble Bond Dickinson’s Raleigh and Research Triangle Park, N.C., offices, effective April 1.
- Jeewon Serrato and Shruti Bhutani Arora have joined Pillsbury as partners in the San Francisco office. They join from Baker Hostetler.
- Zachary Rothenberg has joined Polsinelli as a shareholder in the health care litigation and disputes practice in the Los Angeles office.
- Terrence Davis has joined DLA Piper as a partner with investment funds practice in Atlanta.
