Wake Up Call: Big Firm Mergers Announced in Mexico, Australia

  • The large Spanish law firm Garrigues is making a “large play in Mexico” via its merger with Mexican firm Sánchez Devanny. The “landmark deal” will give the Spanish “heavyweight” the second-largest presence of any international law firm in the country, behind Baker McKenzie. (Global Legal Post)
  • Gadens, a leading Australian firm, has agreed to merge with Canberra firm Trinity Law, a move that will boost Gadens’ partner count to 106. “This is a very exciting time for Gadens, and possibly the most significant time in a history which can be traced back 177 years” including previous member firms, said chair Jeremy Smith. (Australasian Lawyer)
  • The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority’s newly announced senior vice presidents of enforcement include Tina Gubb and Julie Glynn, who since 2019 has been JP Morgan Chase & Co.'s general counsel for its wealth management line of business. Glynn and Gubb will act as senior legal advisors to Bill St. Louis, FINRA’s head of enforcement. (FINRA.org)

  • Kate Sherrard will lead Squire Patton Boggs’s new office in Geneva, its 17th European location.
  • Philip Bowden and Megan Lawrence have joined Proskauer Rose as partners in London. Bowden joins from A&O Shearman.
  • David Contreiras Tyler has joined Womble Bond Dickinson as a partner in the finance, bankruptcy, and restructuring practice in New York. He joins from Hogan Lovells.
  • Conrad Deitrick has joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough as an estate planning and trusts partner in Baltimore. He joins from Baker Donelson.
  • Keith Andresen has rejoined Marshall Dennehey as a shareholder in its casualty department and co-chair of its New York construction and labor law practice group.
  • Saman Rejali and Christopher Kondon have joined Shook, Hardy & Bacon’s litigation practice as partners in Los Angeles.
  • Arturo Ross has joined the Miami office of Ogletree Deakins as a labor and employment law shareholder. He joins from Fox Rothschild.
