Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.
- Allen & Overy has created a new contract negotiation tool called ContractMatrix that will utilize artificial intelligence in an effort to drive revenues and save corporate in-house law departments time and money. The new AI legal tech from the London-founded “Magic Circle” firm “threatens to disrupt the traditional practices of the legal profession.” (Financial Times)
- Ozy Media, Inc. has sued Ben Smith and BuzzFeed, the news organization he ran as editor-in-chief, claiming Smith stole trade secrets to create his new online news site, Semafor. Smith killed Ozy in a series of New York Times stories—but then used its ideas for Semafor, a lawsuit filed in U.S. district court in Brooklyn alleges. (Business Insider)
- More than four months after the launch of its “homegrown” internal generative AI tool called ChatGD, Silicon Valley-based Gunderson Dettmer is getting a clearer picture of what the firm can do with the tech, “and what it cannot.” Perhaps the most surprising highlight so far has been the “staggeringly low” cost of $10,000 to Gunderson to provide ChatGD to the entire firm.
