- New Pennsylvania Ave. office unites combined firm
- Orrick, Buckley completed merger in February
Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and Buckley plan to combine their Washington, D.C. offices in the first quarter of 2024, one year after the two firms merged.
The combined firms will relocate to D.C.'s Foggy Bottom neighborhood, occupying space at 2100 Pennsylvania Ave., according to a firm spokesman.
The firm is seeking a sublease tenant for Buckley’s nearby office space on M Street, the spokesperson confirmed. The lease is set to expire on Orrick’s downtown office on 15th Street.
Orrick, founded in San Francisco, and Washington-based Buckley announced the completion of the firms’ merger in February. The combined firm boasts some 1,000 lawyers and gross revenue near $1.5 billion, according to data compiled by The American Lawyer.
Orrick is among major law firms that have resorted to layoffs to cut costs over the year. The firm said in June that it had eliminated roughly 90 attorneys and staff and delayed start dates for new associates.
Big Law firms have been turning to mergers to fuel their growth ambitions.
Partners at Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling in October voted to combine, forming massive new firm A&O Shearman. The combined firm ranks among the world’s largest by gross revenue.
Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw & Pittman and Stroock & Stroock & Lavan said Thursday that the firms had walked away from talks of a potential tie up.
