Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw & Pittman said on Thursday its merger talks with Stroock & Stroock & Lavan have ended.
The two firms announced on Sept. 21 that they were in “non-exclusive” talks. Pillsbury explored the possibility of having a group of Stroock’s lawyers joining the firm, it said in a statement to Bloomberg Law on Oct. 26.
“We considered different options, including a combination and a lateral acquisition, but ultimately determined that we could not reach an agreement that adequately balanced Pillsbury’s long-term strategic objectives with the more immediate financial and other risks involved,” the firm said.
