NFL Players See Legal Fees Spike as Union Recruits New Lawyers

The labor union representing NFL players saw its legal expenses on outside counsel rise roughly 70% year-over-year, to more than $18.2 million, according to an annual financial statement filed with the Labor Department.

Winston & Strawn once again was the go-to law firm for the NFL Players Association by bringing in almost $14.3 million in legal fees, according to the document covering the one-year-period from March 1, 2024 to Feb. 28 of this year. The firm earned more than $8.4 million in legal fees from the Washington-based player’s union during fiscal 2023-24.
