In-House Lawyers Feel Burn of Big Workloads, Blurred Boundaries

When Shana Simmons ended her nine-year “marathon” as an in-house lawyer for Google in August, she realized she was burned out. Now the general counsel of legal tech company Everlaw, Simmons is trying to cultivate a work environment that prioritizes wellness and balance.

“I try to lead by example,” she told Bloomberg Law. “If I have physical therapy, it’s on my calendar, it’s public. If I have a coffee chat with a friend just because I need it because I’m actually online all the time, that’s on my calendar.”
