GE Healthcare Hires Former Raytheon Lawyer as General Counsel

General Electric Co. said Monday that Frank Jimenez will become general counsel for its health care business Feb. 21, succeeding its recently departed legal chief.

Jimenez, who stepped down in December after two years as general counsel for what is now Raytheon Technologies Corp., will become leader of Chicago-based GE Healthcare’s global law and policy teams, the company said.

He takes over for Michael McAlevey, who spent 24 years in a variety of roles within the GE conglomerate. McAlevey left earlier this year to become chief legal officer for HCA Healthcare Inc., a Nashville, Tenn.-based operator of health care facilities.

Boston-based GE unveiled plans in November to split itself into three separate companies covering aviation, energy, and health care. Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher are advising GE on its proposed separation.

Jimenez’s “proven leadership and significant experience in government and across industries” will be an asset to the organization as it prepares for life as a public company, GE Healthcare Chief Executive Officer Peter Arduini said in a statement.

Jimenez was general counsel of the U.S. Navy during President George W. Bush’s second term. A Miami native, he had previously been the Navy’s deputy general counsel and a candidate for a seat on the Florida Supreme Court after serving as chief of staff to former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.).

Jimenez then went on to hold law department leadership roles at Bunge Ltd., ITT Corp., and Xylem Inc., where he worked on corporate spin-offs.

Raytheon Co., a major U.S. defense contractor, hired Jimenez to be its legal chief in 2015. He played a key role advising the company on its combination with United Technologies Corp., a mega-merger in the aerospace sector that closed in 2020.

Earlier this year, Jimenez was named to the board of Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc., the largest U.S. military shipbuilder, which named a new legal captain in 2020.

Jimenez owns nearly $40,000 in Huntington Ingalls stock and nearly $5 million in Raytheon shares, according to Bloomberg data.
