- New boutique Elsberg Baker & Maruri is topping Milbank scale
- Ranks include ex-Selendy Gay and Quinn Emanuel partners
Litigation boutique Elsberg Baker & Maruri is issuing large associate bonuses that dwarf what Big Law offers its junior lawyers.
The boutique’s associates are getting a pair of bonuses ranging up to $226,250, according to an internal memo viewed by Bloomberg Law. It’s an aggressive bonus package that rivals other elite boutique offerings. The firm is paying annual bonuses ranging from $26,250 to $201,250, as well as additional special bonuses from $6,000 to $25,000.
Selendy Gay offered its associates up to $157,250 while Wilkinson Stekloff offered up to $197,500. It’s also much more than the extra payments previously announced by Milbank LLP and matched by several larger competitors, which total as much as $140,000.
“In just ten months since our launch, our associates have performed brilliantly, including in four trials and arbitration hearings, and we already have five scheduled to take place in 2025,” founding partner David Elsberg said in a statement. “We are excited to have raised the bar for 2024 associate bonuses above the standard set by Big Law and by elite trial boutiques.”
The firm’s past client list includes two former Jane Street Group partners who were accused of stealing a lucrative trade strategy.
The bonuses will be paid out on December 20. The memo did not identify any restrictions.
The firm was launched in February by former Selendy Gay name partner David Elsberg, alongside former Quinn Emanuel partners Rollo Baker and Silpa Maruri, who were co-chairs of Quinn’s corporate governance practice and Delaware practice, respectively. The New York-founded firm has a dozen associates.
