Dentons IP Partner Joins Bryan Cave, Following 15 Ex-Colleagues

Dentons intellectual property partner Scott Cummings has joined a slew of ex-colleagues who jumped to Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner in Washington.

Cummings, previously head of Dentons’ post-grant group, has won trial cases on behalf of patent owners and challengers appearing before the US Patent Trial and Appeal Board, said the firm, which goes by the acronym BCLP, in a statement Wednesday. His practice includes clients in the nanotechnology, military hardware and medical device sectors.

Cummings’s “significant PTAB work along with his deep patent litigation experience is a key strength of the capabilities we have brought to the firm,” Song Jung, the leader of BCLP’s IP team, said in the statement. The move also includes counsel Frank Miskiel and a pair of patent professionals, BCLP said.

BCLP announced last week that 15 partners from the Dentons IP and corporate practices joined the firm. The six IP partners involved included Jung, who had chaired the Dentons global IP and tech group. Dentons former US chair, Jeff Haidet, moved from Dentons to BCLP last month.

In 2021, Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton picked up a five-lawyer IP team from Dentons, which has represented Ford Motor Co. and EBay Inc. in IP matters.
