Cozen Launches IP-Focused Colorado Office, Poaching Lathrop Team

Feb. 16, 2023, 8:22 PM UTC

Cozen O’Connor is opening an office in Boulder, Colorado, with a team of intellectual property lawyers, the firm said Thursday.

The Philadelphia-founded firm will stock the office with four lawyers joining from Lathrop GPM, Cozen said. It also hired three Lathrop patent agents and a tech specialist from the firm.

The economic downturn is an opportunity for Cozen to spend some of its cash reserves and grow, Cozen CEO Michael Heller said in a January interview. He said the firm will “absolutely not” make workforce cuts, even as other major law firms layoff associates and staff.

The attorneys joining Cozen in Boulder are Curtis Vock, Douglas Link, X. Peter Chen, and Steve Barton. Vock, the only one joining as a partner, will lead the new office.

“Adding an office in Boulder further expands our presence and reach in Colorado and the Mountain West, both of which are an important part of our expansion strategy,” Heller said in a statement announcing the move.
