- Rapper, paparazzi company settle copyright infringement suit
- Minaj allowed to post certain pictures on Instagram
Nicki Minaj has agreed to pay $65,000 to Splash News & Picture Agency LLC to resolve a copyright infringement suit the now-bankrupt paparazzi company filed after she posted its photos of her on her Instagram page.
The settlement, filed Tuesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada, would give Minaj perpetual license to use certain photos on her Instagram account without paying royalties to Splash. The photo and video company had sued the rapper in January 2020 in federal district court in California.
A hearing to consider approval of the agreement is scheduled for June 23 in bankruptcy court.
Los Angeles-based Splash filed for Chapter 11 in March, citing financial woes stemming in part from the cost of defending a privacy suit brought by Meghan Markle in the U.K.
The case is In re Splash News & Picture Agency, LLC, Bankr. D. Nev., No. 21-11377, motion filed 5/18/21.
