The Trump administration wants a federal appeals court to review a ruling that required the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to seek additional funding from the Federal Reserve to keep operating.
The March 13 order from the US District Court for the Northern District of California marked the second time a federal judge has forced acting CFPB Director Russell Vought to refill the agency’s coffers. The CFPB is funded through the Fed rather than the congressional appropriations process, and Vought had repeatedly declined to seek more money as he attempted to slash the consumer finance watchdog.
