Nexstar Wins Bid to Toss DirecTV’s Fee-Fixing Antitrust Suit

Nexstar Media Group Inc. prevailed in its effort to dismiss DirecTV’s lawsuit accusing the company of manipulating fees paid by cable and satellite providers to carry popular programs.

Judge Kevin Castel of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York on Wednesday granted Nexstar’s motion to dismiss the case, saying that DirecTV’s alleged “injuries are too indirect and speculative to confer antitrust standing.” The ruling is a win for Nexstar, the country’s largest owner of local TV channels, which has recently faced a number of legal woes including patent infringement and discrimination suits.
