Fanatics Slaps Panini With Sports Trading Cards Countersuit

Sports memorabilia company Fanatics Inc. has slapped Italian rival Panini SpA with a lawsuit accusing the company of engaging in unfair trade practices that hurt Fanatics’ nascent collectible cards business.

The lawsuit comes just days after Panini filed its own antitrust suit against Fanatics, alleging the Jacksonville, Fla.-based company deployed a strategy to monopolize the market for major US professional sports leagues trading cards.

Panini allegedly derailed Fanatics’ ability to sign lucrative deals with NBA players and NFL rookies for which Panini had competing licenses, according to the Monday complaint filed in the US District Court for the Southern District ...
