Wisconsin Judge Halts Order to Verify Voters’ Citizenship Status

A Wisconsin judge put on hold his earlier order requiring the state’s election officials to comb through its list of registered voters and verify their citizenship before the next statewide election in February.

The Oct. 3 order, which also enjoined the Wisconsin Elections Commission from approving any voter registration applications without verifying the applicant’s citizenship, was administratively stayed Friday by Judge Michael P. Maxwell during a hearing at the Wisconsin Circuit Court for Waukesha County.
