Varsity Blues Parent Loses Appeal Challenging Wire Fraud Charges

A father charged with fraud as part of the “Varsity Blues” scandal lost his First Circuit appeal on Monday, after the court said the government adequately alleged that obtaining a college admissions exam was an object of his scheme.

William McGlashan Jr., who was accused of paying $50,000 to have an ACT proctor alter his son’s answers on the exam, pleaded guilty to a single count of wire fraud in 2021. The plea was conditional, however, preserving his right to appeal the denial of his motion to dismiss the indictment.
