Trump Prosecutor Smith Reined In by Judge Who Paused Jan. 6 Case

The federal judge overseeing the criminal election interference case against Donald Trump limited what prosecutors can do while the case is on hold.

But she stopped short of holding Special Counsel Jack Smith in contempt of court and fining him as the former president had urged.

Smith must first get approval from US District Judge Tanya Chutkan to make new filings under an order she issued Thursday, another obstacle for the Justice Department in its quest to take Trump to trial starting March 4.
