Texas Pharmacist Convicted for Unlawful Opioid Pill Distribution

Deanna Winfield-Gates was convicted by a federal jury in Houston, Texas, for her alleged role in a pill-mill pharmacy that unlawfully dispensed more than 100,000 opioid pills in exchange for cash, according to a Thursday news release.

Winfield-Gates served as a relief pharmacist at Health Fit Pharmacy, a cash-only pill-mill pharmacy, where controlled substances were dispensed to drug traffickers often based on prescriptions that were fraudulent and issued in the names of physicians whose identities were stolen, the Justice Department said.
