Suspect’s Confession in Grindr FBI Sex Crime Sting Admissible

Self-incriminating statements made by a man suspected of soliciting sex from a minor are admissible evidence despite no Miranda warning because he wasn’t then in custody, the Seventh Circuit said Monday.

Jorge Leal allegedly engaged in sexually explicit conversations with an undercover FBI agent while the officer posed as a 15-year-old boy on the dating app Grindr. Leal allegedly solicited oral sex and asked for the boy’s location.
