Straw Man Gun Purchase Conviction Reversed for Inadequate Proof

A gun purchaser who bought two weapons for someone else beat his conviction for knowingly making a false statement about the straw purchase.

Christopher Rodriguez-Soriano’s confession that his statement to a licensed firearms dealer regarding the buyer’s identity was false wasn’t sufficiently corroborated, a divided panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit said July 24.

Rodriguez-Soriano bought two guns from a Northern Virginia location of Gander Mountain Co. in July 2015. He completed a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms form that listed him as the purchaser of both firearms. The dealer completed another ATF form ...
