A Justice Department special counsel tasked with investigating Hunter Biden has charged a Los Angeles man with lying to the FBI about Biden and his father’s connection to Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings.

Alexander Smirnov, a longtime confidential informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was charged in an indictment made public on Thursday and signed by US Special Counsel David Weiss.

Smirnov allegedly told his FBI handler in 2020 that Burisma executives had revealed to him in 2015 and 2016 that they had hired Hunter to obtain the protection of Joe Biden, then the vice president, ...
