Norway Indicts PetroNor Unit Over Alleged Congo Oil Bribes (1)

Norway has indicted two people and a wholly-owned subsidiary of PetroNor E&P ASA for allegedly paying bribes in the Republic of Congo.

The two Norwegian citizens, who weren’t identified by name, have been accused of “gross corruption and gross accounting violations,” said Marianne Djupesland, a senior public prosecutor at Norway’s authority for investigating economic and environmental crimes, known as Okokrim. The PetroNor unit was also indicted for “gross corruption.”

PetroNor said in a Sunday statement that it “categorically contests the indictment” of its indirect subsidiary Hemla Africa Holding AS. Hemla is the majority owner of a Congolese company that ...
