Newark Mayor Baraka Could Face July Trial in Trespassing Case

Ras Baraka, the mayor of Newark, New Jersey, could face a July trial for trespassing after his arrest at a private detention facility that would help the Trump administration’s mass deportation efforts.

Lawyers for the Democrat first elected in 2014 said at a court hearing Thursday they would seek to dismiss the case on the grounds that he was “targeted” for prosecution and US agents didn’t have jurisdiction to arrest him on May 9.
