New York Political Consultant Sentenced To 36 Months in Prison on Fraud Charges

A New York political consultant has been sentenced to a three-year prison term on charges that he joined in a conspiracy with an indicted state senator to defraud the state Democratic Senate Campaign Committee of $100,000, prosecutors announced (United States v. Lowe, S.D.N.Y., 13-cr-00985, sentencing 12/19/14).

Melvin Lowe also was convicted of failing to pay income tax on more than $2.1 million in consulting pay from 2007 to 2012. He reported less than $25,000 in income in each of his federal income tax returns for 2007 through 2009, prosecutors said. He failed to file tax returns for 2010 ...
