C. Abbonizio Contractors Inc. and its president Peter Abbonizio agreed to pay $400,000 to resolve allegations they violated the False Claims Act by circumventing small business set aside requirements in a federally funded contract, the Justice Department said Tuesday.
C. Abbonizio and its president allegedly falsely certified that disadvantage business entities, Sanzo Ltd. and Multifacet LLC, were performing work on the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Direct Connection Project. Sanzo and Multifacet weren’t actually performing work, but instead were simply billing, the DOJ said.
