The US filed a lawsuit against a medical device maker for allegedly causing health-care providers to bill Medicare for services in which the providers improperly reused single-use rectal sensors and catheters, the Department of Justice said Tuesday.
The complaint against The Prometheus Group and Richard Poore, its president and sole owner, alleges violations of the False Claims Act. It was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.
The US alleged reuse exposed vulnerable Medicare beneficiaries to the risks of bacterial, fungal and viral infections, according to the department.
