Manishkumar Patel has pleaded guilty in connection with a $50 million health care fraud and kickback scheme, according to the Justice Department Friday.
Patel, alongside a co-conspirator, fraudulently sold prescriptions and doctors’ orders for durable medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and laboratory tests to Medicare providers. These providers then made payments to Patel for the prescription orders, said the DOJ.
Patel entered into sham contracts with the Medicare providers for marketing services in an attempt to conceal the kickback scheme. Overall, the scheme resulted in nearly $50 million in losses to Medicare, the agency said.
