House Republicans proposed cutting funding for the Legal Services Corporation, but aren’t eliminating it completely as President Donald Trump had suggested.
The House Appropriations Committee seeks to provide $300 million to the LSC in the spending bill released Monday that covers the Commerce, Justice, and Science agencies. Trump requested a complete elimination of the agency, with only $21 million for its “orderly closeout.”
The fiscal 2026 spending bill represents a 2.8% total decrease from the enacted fiscal 2025 levels, including a 46% decrease in LSC funding.
