Jacksonville Man Indicted for Tax Evasion, Failure to File

Phillip Mak was charged with tax evasion, not filing a tax return, and not paying taxes, the Justice Department announced Thursday.

According to the DOJ, Mak earned approximately $10.3 million in income from 2008 through 2020 as a self-employed businessman but did not pay any federal taxes and failed to file tax returns for most of those years. The Internal Revenue Service assessed Mak with approximately $1.9 million in outstanding taxes, penalties, and interest for several tax years during that period.
