ALBANY, N.Y.—Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) appointed a blue ribbon commission July 2, with broad powers to investigate public corruption in New York state government, political campaigns, and elections (Executive Order No. 106).
The Commission to Investigate Public Corruption, appointed under the state Executive Law and the so-called Moreland Act, will have the power to subpoena witnesses and records. Members will also be deemed deputy attorneys general, granting them authority to investigate matters involving “public peace, public safety, and public justice,’’ according to the executive order.
