A former US Army civilian employee who stole more than $108 million from a grant program designed to provide services to military families has been sentenced to 180 months in prison, the Justice Department announced Tuesday.
Janet Yamanaka Mello, who worked as a financial program manager for the Army, formed a business in 2016 named Child Health and Youth Lifelong Development with the sole purpose of receiving grant funds from the 4-H Military Partnership Grant program, the department said.
