FBI Seeks University to Underwrite its Public Safety Courses

The FBI will contract with a college or university to accredit its curriculum on 21st century public safety for state and local law enforcement.

The opportunity demonstrates federal law enforcement’s attention to nascent technology, like artificial intelligence and biometric data collection, as it attempts to prepare a new generation of officers.

Contractors already assist federal officers as agencies introduce this new technology into investigations. Clearview AI earned $1.5 million from the Department of Homeland Security on a facial recognition contract, a program that invited blowback from lawmakers and advocates about the responsible use of AI.
