Ex-Theranos COO Balwani Appeals Sentence in Fraud Case

Former Theranos Inc. President and Chief Operating Officer Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, has appealed a December ruling that handed him a 13-year prison sentence for defrauding Theranos investors and patients.

• Balwani filed the appeal in the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals challenging the sentence imposed Dec. 7 for his conduct at the blood-testing startup he ran alongside its founder and chief executive officer Elizabeth Holmes.
