Ex-Lawyer for Rapper Michel to Plead Guilty to Contempt

The lawyer who unsuccessfully defended Grammy-winning rapper Pras Michel against money-laundering and foreign influence charges intends to plead guilty to contempt of court for leaking confidential grand jury materials before Michel’s trial, court documents show.

David Kenner is expected to enter his plea Friday in federal court in Washington where Michel was convicted in April of conspiring to illegally lobby to end US probes of Jho Low over the Malaysian tycoon’s role in the 1MDB global corruption scandal.

About a month before the trial began, prosecutors charged Kenner with criminal contempt for providing confidential information to Bloomberg News journalists.
