Ex-Georgia Insurance Commissioner Loses Fraud Conviction Appeal

A former Georgia Insurance Commissioner who was convicted of a scheme to steal millions from the Georgia Underwriting Association mostly lost his Eleventh Circuit appeal on Monday.

Jim Beck raised numerous challenges to the district court’s judgment, but the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit affirmed his convictions, saying most of his arguments were without merit. It vacated, however, the district court’s decision on tax restitution.
