Ex-Barrack Assistant Grimes Seeks Separate Trial From Boss (1)

Matthew Grimes, an assistant to Colony Capital LLC founder Tom Barrack, asked a judge for a separate trial from his boss on charges they were unregistered agents who tried to influence the President Donald Trump administration on behalf of the United Arab Emirates.

The government indicted the two together and planned one trial. Defense lawyers for Grimes, who started as an intern and eventually traveled the world with Barrack, argued in a court filing Monday that they now have “competing trial strategies” with the Barrack team.
