EV Charging Vandalism Is Getting Worse, ChargePoint CEO Says

ChargePoint Holdings Inc. will deploy a cut-resistant cable on its electric vehicle charging stations to fight vandalism that its top executive said is “pervasive and getting worse.”

“We’ve seen hundreds and hundreds of chargers get vandalized, and I bet industry-wide, it’s in the thousands,” said Rick Wilmer, the company’s chief executive officer, in an interview on Bloomberg - Open Interest.

Much of the vandalism is the work of copper thieves looking to resell the metal inside the cables, even though Wilmer said the money they can make per station isn’t much.
