A real estate developer and a former FBI agent were sentenced Wednesday in a bribery scheme designed to take advantage of a Washington, D.C., law that gives tenants the right to purchase buildings they live in.
Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly sentenced real estate developer Brian Bailey to four years on two counts of bribery and two counts of conspiracy. The former agent, David Paitsel, was sentenced to two years on one count of conspiracy and one count of bribery.
The government had been seeking within-guidelines sentences of around 10 years for both, but Kollar-Kotelly found downward variances appropriate in each case. ...
